DIY Lip Scrub Recipe Without Honey: Sugary Spearmint and Coconut Oil Lip Scrub

This super simple DIY lip scrub recipe whips up in seconds. Sugar and spearmint taste delicious, and leave your lips silky soft and smooth. Get the DIY Spearmint Lip Scrub recipe. By Angela Palmer at Farm Girl Soap Co.

This time of year my lips are always so super dry—the side effect of being outside all day in cold, windy weather. When your lips get so dry that even your awesome homemade lip balm won't touch it, this lip scrub will come to the rescue.

What the heck is a lip scrub, you ask? It's a gentle exfoliant for the lips, one that scrubs away dry, flaky skin and leaves your lips feeling silky soft.

The key trade secret to making a lip scrub that isn't too harsh or abrasive is to use extra fine baking sugar. The smaller grains won't tear the skin off of your lips, and just feels better when you use it.

Spearmint essential oil is my go-to for this lip scrub. It tastes good, is gentle, and is safe to use on the delicate skin of your lips.

RECIPE: Sugary Spearmint Lip Scrub

This recipe makes approximately 1/2 ounce of lip scrub. Keep yours in a small container with a lid and use a few times a week, or whenever your lips feel dry and flaky. All ingredients can be found at the grocery store or health food store, or you can order online (links to my favorite ingredients are below.)

What you'll need:

1/2 tablespoon extra fine baking sugar

1 teaspoon coconut oil

1 teaspoon sweet almond oil

2-3 drops spearmint essential oil or spearmint flavor oil

TO MAKE: In a small container, mix together all ingredients and stir until well blended. If the coconut oil is too solid to stir easily, gently warm it to soften.

TO USE: Dab a small amount of scrub onto your lips and massage gently. Wipe off with a soft, damp cloth to remove all sugar grains. Follow up with a good lip balm.

Here's an awesome recipe for peppermint lip balm, but if you substitute spearmint essential oil for the peppermint, you'll have a lovely coordinating lip scrub and balm set. Easy!
