Super Simple DIY Oatmeal Facial Mask and Scrub Recipe
Oatmeal facial masks are one of my all-time favorites. They're perfect for all skin types, and are so easy and inexpensive to make.
I love this recipe because it's super easy and I always have the needed ingredients in my kitchen. I bet you do too! Plus, this recipe doubles as a gentle facial scrub too.
All skin types can benefit from this mask. It's cleansing and smoothing while being ultra gentle. The powdered milk gives the mask a creamy consistency, and lends a bit of gentle exfoliating power thanks to the lactic acid.
This oatmeal mask base is great to use on its own, or you can add dried herbs, herbal tea, clays, and other ingredients. What will you add to customize your oatmeal facial mask?

RECIPE: Super Simple Oatmeal Mask/Scrub
This recipe makes a dry mask base that's hydrated just before using. This way, you can let it set out on your bathroom shelf without fear of spoilage. And it keeps all the lovely ingredients fresh and potent until you're ready to use them.
What you'll need:
1 cup uncooked oats
3 tablespoons nonfat dry milk (powdered milk)
Optional: 1 teaspoon dried herbs (chamomile, lavender, rose petals, green tea, basil, etc.) and/or 2 teaspoons your choice of dry clay
STEP 1: In a blender, mix uncooked oats for approximately 30 seconds until you have a fine powder.
STEP 2: Transfer to a bowl and stir in the powdered milk. If you're adding herbs and clay, stir them in now too. (Remember, only use dried herbs, not fresh, in this recipe otherwise you'll get mold growing in your mask base. Ick!)
STEP 3: Pour into a container with a lid. It looks super cute packaged in a mason jar!
TO USE AS A MASK: In a small bowl, mix one tablespoon mask to two tablespoons warm water. Let stand in the bowl for two minutes to allow the ingredients to hydrate.
Apply to face and neck using circular motions. Leave on 10-15 minutes. Work off with a damp washcloth and rinse well.
TO USE AS A SCRUB: Take approximately one teaspoon of the mixture into your palm. Dampen with just enough water to make a paste.
Massage over a dampened face for about 20 to 30 seconds and then rinse. (To make this into a cleansing facial wash, squeeze a dab of your fav facial cleanser into your palm with the oatmeal mixture.)
YIELD: approximately 18-24 treatments
SHELF LIFE: Dry base will last about 12 months on the shelf. Once hydrated, use immediately.
