DIY Face Mask Recipe: Oatmeal, Goat Milk, and Honey Facial Mask

This oatmeal, milk, and honey DIY face mask recipe will leave your skin positively glowing. It's an incredibly easy DIY facial mask recipe, and whips up in just a few minutes. Learn how to make this oatmeal, milk, and honey face mask recipe now. By Angela Palmer at Farm Girl Soap Co.

This oatmeal, milk, and honey DIY face mask recipe is one that we make in my DIY Facial Masks and Scrubs class and it's always a crowd-pleaser.

It's great for all skin types, and gives your skin a bright, healthy glow. You'll love how soft your face feels after using this mask.

One reason my students love this mask so much is because its cream base makes it similar to store-bought masks they're familiar with. No need to hydrate, it's already to use whenever you are.

But it's super simple to craft (seriously, it whips up in less than 5 minutes), can safely sit on your bathroom shelf without need for refrigeration, and is a 100% natural DIY face mask without any preservatives.

How can that be, you ask? The trick is in the honey!

Let's take a closer look at the ingredients in this mask, so you can understand how they work and what they will do for your skin.

Honey

Honey is the star ingredient in this DIY face mask. It is the ingredient that allows you to get a cream base that needs no refrigeration.

Honey is self-preserving, allowing you to make this creamy mask without any need for additional preservatives.

But that's not the only skin care benefit of honey. Honey is soothing, hydrating, and plumps your skin to give it a nice dewy glow.

Honey can also help strengthen the skin's acid mantle, the protective barrier across the surface of the skin.

Oatmeal

Y'all know the love affair I have with oats! I add a little to nearly every DIY skin care product I craft. So good for you inside and out.

Oats are gently cleansing without being drying. They also soothe irritation and redness.

Remember, in order to make a DIY face mask that has a lovely, smooth, pro-quality texture, you must blend your oats first to get a soft powder. If you've never done this to the oats you incorporate into your handmade skin care products, it is a game changer!

Read this post to learn how to make oatmeal powder. It's simple, I promise.

Goat's Milk Powder

Yes, there is such a thing as powdered goat's milk!

I know the idea is a bit off-putting to some people. (It's OK, I thought it was weird at first too and I have goats!) But once I used it, I was a convert. It is AH-MAZ-ING for your skin.

Here's why goat's milk is so good for your skin: it's chock full of vitamins, contains exfoliating alpha hydroxy acids, and leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.

Using powdered goat milk, rather than fresh, allows you to craft a shelf-stable mask that won't spoil and go rancid. Please don't substitute fresh milk for the powdered.

Because it's higher in fat than cow milk, goat milk will give a creamier, more moisturizing end product. But if you don't have powdered goat's milk, it's OK to substitute regular powdered milk from the grocery store. You'll still get a fabulous finished product.

RECIPE: Oatmeal, Goat Milk, and Honey DIY Facial Mask Recipe

This recipe makes about 1 ounce, or enough for four to five treatments. Try pairing this mask with the Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey Soap. Love!

What you'll need:

1 tablespoon powdered goat milk

1 tablespoon finely ground oats (here's how)

2 teaspoons honey

TO MAKE: In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients until completely blended. If the consistency is too runny for your taste, add a bit more oats. If it seems too thick, add a bit more honey.

Transfer to a small container with a lid. Brownie points if the container is cute or repurposed!

I store my DIY facial masks in these lovely glass jars with bamboo lids. They look lovely sitting on the bathroom counter, and make using my DIY facial masks so convenient.

TO USE: Spread a thin layer over clean face and neck. Let set five to 10 minutes. Work off with a damp cloth and rinse well with warm water.
Finish with an application of your favorite facial moisturizer or serum (like this lovely anti-aging DIY Pomegranate Carrot Seed Facial Serum. Use this mask once or twice per week for soft, glowing skin.
